VTuber economy in 2026 — the agency model is hitting a ceiling

VTuber agency revenue per talent peaked in Q4 2025 and is down YoY in Q1 2026. Hololive English division revenue is up in absolute terms but per-talent flat, while Nijisanji EN is in active decline. The agency model is hitting a structural ceiling.

The independent VTuber rise is the read. Independent talent on YouTube and Twitch crossed 38% of total VTuber-tagged superchat revenue in Q1 — up from 19% two years ago. The model lets a top independent keep 70-80% of revenue versus the 30-50% take from agencies, and the rigging and asset costs are now low enough that the math works.
