Epic vs Google settlement — what the developers actually got

The Epic-Google settlement opened third-party app stores on Android worldwide. The first 90 days of data tell the structural story.

Epic and Google settled the longstanding antitrust litigation in February 2026 with terms that opened third-party app store distribution on Android worldwide and reduced the Google Play take rate to 12% for indie developers. The first 90 days of post-settlement data are now in.

The structural read: third-party stores are growing fast on Android in markets where Google had monopoly distribution. The Epic Games Store on Android pulled $48M in Q1 alone. Indie developer take-home is up materially from the prior 30% take rate. The longer-term question is whether iOS gets a similar settlement under EU DMA pressure.
