Steam Controller 2 drops May 4 — the Steam Machine is still coming

Valve confirmed Controller 2 leads the 2026 hardware triumvirate. Steam Deck 2 and Steam Machine slip to later in the year, but they slip together.

Valve shipped the Steam Controller 2 on May 4 to retail. Two trackpads, four back paddles, gyro that actually tracks, and a dock-mode that pairs with a Steam-OS PC at sub-1ms latency. The price is $79.

The big news under the hood: Controller 2 ships with the same core firmware as the unreleased Steam Deck 2 and Steam Machine. That confirms the platform-wide input architecture Valve has been working on since 2023. If you have been on the fence about a Steam Deck OLED, this is a clean signal to wait.
